Open Office Impress is a presentation software program that is part of a suite of programs offered free from OpenOffice.org. OpenOffice Impress is a great tool for presentations in business, classrooms, and personal use.

OpenOffice.org Impress, a part of the OpenOffice.org office suite and developed by Sun Microsystems, is a presentation program similar to Microsoft PowerPoint.[1][2] In addition to being able to create PDF files from presentations, it is also able to export presentations to SWF files allowing them to be played on any computer with a Flash player installed. It is able to view, edit and save files in several file formats, including the .ppt format, which is used by Microsoft PowerPoint.
The program lacks ready-made presentation designs, although third-party templates are readily available on the Internet. An advantage that Impress has over PowerPoint is that it is distributed under an open source licence and so is freely available for download without charge.

With this software, you can save your presentations in OpenDocument format, the new international standard for office documents. This XML based format means you’re not tied in to IMPRESS. You can access your presentations from any OpenDocument compliant software.

Of course, you are free to use your old Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, or save your work in PowerPoint format for sending to people who are still locked into Microsoft products. Alternatively, use IMPRESS’s built-in ability to create Flash (.swf) versions of your presentations.
